On The Issues

CREATE JOBS

My primary goal as State Legislator is to work to create jobs and spur economic growth. Our state has depended on tourism and real estate for far too long for our economic livelihood. It is time that our state moves toward diversifying our economy and attract industries with higher paying jobs for Floridians. Florida has the entrepreneurs, the universities, the creativity and the workforce to make it happen.

  • Continue a pro-business and a favorable economic environment that give businesses the incentive to invest expand and hire more workers in Florida.
  • Work to attract growth industries like biotechnology, healthcare, movie and television production and finance.
  • Support redevelopment of the Miami Beach Convention Center to have the ability to host international and business trade shows that are lost to Las Vegas and Orlando.
  • Build a world-class infrastructure to meet the water, energy and transportation demands of a 21st century Florida. While making sure that state contracts are employing Floridians and local businesses.

FIX EDUCATION

Education should be the most fundamental work of the State Legislature. There is no greater function of state government than educating children and adults. Safe streets and economic growth depend on education. We must put a greater emphasis on core subjects in failing schools, ensure greater funding for early education and make sure that Florida graduates more scientists, engineers, doctors and nurses.

  • Use market incentives to increase students graduating from high demand majors like mathematics, engineering and health sciences by decreasing their tuition at state schools.
  • Reward outstanding teachers in mathematics and science.
  • Promote greater involvement from parents and help establish a culture of academic success
  • Allow greater accessibility for professionals to become a teacher thus allowing physicists, mathematicians and doctors to become instructors and improve faculty competence.

LOWER PROPERTY TAXES

Florida politicians need a new attitude when it comes to government spending and property taxes.

Politicians have been reckless with monies from the real estate boom of the last decade. Now we must work to rein in spending and find ways to make government more efficient.
